NASA Webinar: Modular Power Converter for Lunar Power Grids
When: Tue, 1/12/2027 at 2:00 PM (Eastern Time)
As lunar exploration expands, reliable power distribution will be essential to supporting habitats, scientific instruments, and other surface infrastructure. NASA’s Glenn Research Center has developed a modular power conversion technology designed to connect lunar power assets and enable power sharing over long distances.
The Universal Modular Interface Converter (UMIC) is a bidirectional AC/DC power converter that connects a 120 V DC power bus to a medium-to-high-voltage, three-phase AC grid. Its modular architecture supports flexible grid configurations, load sharing, and integration with different control and communication systems. The technology is currently at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5.
Beyond lunar surface infrastructure, the technology has potential applications in power distribution systems for large spacecraft, space stations, and future planetary exploration missions.
Join NASA Glenn innovators to learn about the technology’s design, capabilities, potential applications, and opportunities for further development and licensing.
